What do we mean by Central Asia?
By Central Asia we mean the Turkic and Persian speaking peoples who encompass an area stretching from Southern Russia to Pakistan and from Turkey across to north-west China. It includes the former Soviet Union countries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Tatarstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, alongside the more traditional Muslim countries in the south.
